Hinohikari japanese rice is well known for its rich taste, despite the grain being small.
It has a thick and chewy texture. In Kyushu it is common to eat it on a daily basis and it is popular in restaurants.

Since 1989 the amount of land being used for Hinohikari rice cultivation has steadily increased being the third largest after Koshihikari and Hitomebore rice.
Hinohikari rice is grown in the west of Japan. It is a hybrid of Koshihikari and Koganebare rice.
"Hino" means "salute", alluding to the region of Kyushu in ancient times, and "hikari" means "sun" .
Together, they mean that the rice shines when it has grown.
